The Data Integration & Ontologies department at Novo Nordisk is looking for a Senior Research Data Steward with strong communication and leadership skills to support our data management initiative.
About the department
The newly established department of Data Integration & Ontologies aims at digitization of data from early research. With FAIR principles as the foundation, the department aims at simplifying the process of data capture using semantic models to establish interoperability across data sets from pre-clinical research. The long-term vision of the department is to create a digital mindset by driving the adoption of FAIR principles across the pipeline. This department plays a key role in the intersection between research scientists, application developers and data modelers. The team will act as a liaison among these groups to ensure the quality and consistency of data being generated while showcasing strong gains from analytics models using clean data.
As a Senior Research Data Steward, you will have the rare opportunity to influence and shape the data management strategy for early research pipeline.
About the position
The Senior Research Data Steward is accountable for the management of pre-defined domains of master data and meta data groups. Collaborating closely with data owners and data analysts, he/she will be responsible for master data governance and management with respect to data integrity, accuracy as well as privacy where required. This role will be a significant contributor to ensure that data is complete, accurate, and timely.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
1. Work with diverse stakeholders across the company and with owners of specific data elements to assess, identify and address data quality or consistency issues.
2. Act as a quality control partner for external data from collaborations and other sources.
3. Partner with business leaders and data leads to establish the governance for a given domain (including data quality and governance policies) and ensure that standards are being adhered to.
4. Maintain data lineage by creating/ repurposing existing systems to develop a searchable online catalogue for registration of meta-data.
5. Partner with business leaders and data leads to drive change management to influence the adoption of standardized vocabulary within the established regulatory, compliance and safety guidelines.
6. Communicate widely and set up trainings as required to train specialists and research scientists in data management processes including registration of new meta-data.
7. Popularize the use of controlled vocabularies, ontologies and data management best practices through trainings and workshops.
Qualifications & Experience
- Ph.D. in life sciences or a related field, with a 3-5 years post-PhD experience in biological data management (for example: genomics, bioinformatics, next-generation sequencing, microscopy, imaging)
- Knowledge of data format standards, including industry standards (e.g. XMI for inter-change of XML), as well as database management systems (e.g. SQL Server, Oracle, NoSQL, MarkLogic)
The ideal candidate will have experience with
- metadata management of heterogeneous datasets, ETL processes, data governance & stewardship. Experience with the management and curation of large-scale genomic and/or phenotype data sets using FAIR principles is a plus
- enterprise meta-data management tools like Smartlogic, Informatica, Talend, Anzo, Colli-bra etc
- biomedical vocabularies and taxonomies, such as MeSH, SNOMED, ICD9/10, MedDRA etc
